The extraordinary assembly of the Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts (MANU) scheduled for today will most probably decide, after 48 "immortals" face each others, about the fate of the Macedonian Encyclopedia, a project that stirred strong reactions among the domestic and the international public. After its promotion on the highest level, the Academy had decided to withdraw the Encyclopedia from sale with the aim of correcting the mistakes and inconsistencies first as regards the definitions concerning the Albanians in Macedonia and then some others from the social sphere. The MANU Presidency has expectedly or not and contrary to the already scheduled extraordinary assembly, dismissed from position the editor-in-chief Blaze Ristovski and decided to form a totally new editorial board that will correct the failures. Ristovski strongly reacted to the requests and recommendations for presenting his resignation, by stating that he was making the Encyclopedia "for this people, with nearly 300 associates. What would I look like if I turned my back on all these people? It is a matter of honor, awareness, it is consciousness. I do not intend to resign, because I do not feel guilty at all. This is my first and final decision!" After his dismissal, the editor-in-chief came out with the stance that the Presidency did not have the authorities and that its decision was illegitimate because the editorial board and the editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia had been appointed by the Council of the Lexicographic Center, which is the only one that can dismiss them, and therefore the extraordinary assembly will be the place where swords will be crossed about the responsibility for the Encyclopedia, that is to say this will be the place where the decision will be made on whether Ristovski will be dismissed or not and whether the leading personality of the Lexicographic Center and MANU President Georgi Stardelov, who was elected with only one vote plus, will depart from his position together with him.
